You're two people doing Stonehenge and Bath

What a private Stonehenge tour from London costs
A private Stonehenge tour from London is a car and driver for the day — usually ten hours — that takes you to the stones and on to Bath, the Cotswolds or Windsor, at your pace. In our partner feed, customisable private days start from about £420 for Stonehenge and Bath and £520–£550 for the Cotswolds. Treat these as the price for the vehicle unless the listing says otherwise, and expect Stonehenge admission on top.
Pricier private full days — one with a private guide and a Roman Baths visit, one squeezing in three stops — list from around £790, but they have the weakest ratings in this category (4.1★ and 3.8★). The customisable “car and driver” listings score better. If you want a qualified guide in the car, a Blue Badge driver-guide starts at £760 for a full day under the Guild’s 2026–27 rates.
Tour vs DIY: the ladder
| Option | £ per person | Time on the road | Time at Stonehenge | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coach tour, Stonehenge & Bath with entry | ~£85 | ~11 h day, fixed | Set by the tour | Low |
| Train + Stonehenge Tour bus | from ~£20 in advance train fares, plus bus and entry | 1 h 20–1 h 40 each way, plus 30–40 min bus | As long as you like in opening hours | Medium — Bath as well makes a long day |
| Private car & driver | from ~£420 per car: ~£210 each for 2, ~£105 for 4 | ~10 h day, your timings | Your choice, inner circle if booked | High |
| Blue Badge driver-guide | from £760 per day: ~£253 each for 3 | up to 9 h day | Your choice, with expert guiding | High |
Train fares are Trainline’s lowest advance singles from London Waterloo to Salisbury (from about £10 each way); the Stonehenge Tour bus runs from Salisbury station and city centre, about every 30 minutes in summer and usually hourly in winter. Bath is 1 h 13 min from Paddington on the fastest trains, with advance singles from about £13 — easy as its own day trip.

Inner circle tours from London: how they work
Normal Stonehenge tickets keep you on a path around the stones. Getting inside the circle means English Heritage’s Stone Circle Experience: an hour at the stones in the early morning or evening, outside normal visiting hours, from £70 for adults and £40 for children aged 5–17 (under-fives free). Each session takes up to 52 people, split into two groups of 26. There are no sessions in October or November, and booking is open to March 2027.
You can book it yourself and drive or take a private car, or buy a tour that includes it. A private car makes the awkward timings easy — a dawn slot from London is otherwise a very early train and a taxi. Our Stonehenge tours guide covers the shared inner circle coaches.
What private costs per head
Private vs shared — what does it cost per head?
Private tours are priced per group, shared tours per person. Slide the group size to see when private stops being a luxury.
The shared figure is the most-reviewed Stonehenge and Bath coach day in our feed, at about £85 with Stonehenge entry. A Blue Badge driver-guide is the top of the range — about £253 each for three — while a private car at £420 for four people is about £105 each before entry. For four or more, the private premium buys you the whole day on your own terms.
Cotswolds, Bath or Windsor?
- Cotswolds: the strongest case for private. Trains from Paddington reach Moreton-in-Marsh in about 1 h 33 min (advance singles from £14), but the villages are spread out. See Cotswolds tours for the small-group alternative.
- Bath: easy by train on your own; go private only if you’re pairing it with Stonehenge or Lacock. Compare on our Bath tours page.
- Windsor: close enough that a half day works; a private car lets you add it to Stonehenge on the way back.
- Highclere: check opening dates first. In 2026 the castle opened from 12 July to 3 September (closed Fridays and Saturdays), with Christmas tours on 3–6 December, and tickets must be pre-booked.
